ChurnHill Glass
Art from the flame
ChurnHill Glass is a one-woman operation, run by me, Laura Churn Hill. All of my work is made by melting glass in the flame of a torch in my studio in Tahoe City, California. This process is called lampwork, named for the oil lamps used in the process historically. From the flame come tiny pieces of art in the form of beads, vessels, ornaments and accessories.
My art journey began with oil painting as a child alongside my grandmother, and continued on in many forms, including formal education in photography and design at the University of Nevada, Reno. I first melted glass in 2005, and there has been no looking back.
